MOVE TO REJECT COMMUNISTS
MARITIME UNIONS IN U.S. RESOLUTION PASSED BY CONFERENCE (N Z. Press Association-Copyright) (Rec. 11.) WASHINGTON, March 15. A conference attended by representatives of 10 seafaring unions claiming an aggregate membership of 200,000, adopted a resolution calling or\ unions to reject Communists as “traitors to the nation and a detriment to the solid permanency of the United States Merchant Marine.” The conference also asked for swift action by Congress to check the transferring of American vessels to Panamanian and Honduran registry. It added that a national boycott wouldbe imposed if necessary on American companies which adopted that method of avoiding payment of American wage scales, ship inspection requirements and United States taxation.
Hie participating unions included five affiliates of the American Federation of Labour and four affiliates of the Congress of Industrial Organisations.
