ROYAL FAMILY’S WELCOME
UNITY IN SOUTH AFRICA NO RACIAL DISCORD REPORTED (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 7.45 b.m.) LONDON, March 15. Emphasising the unity of South Africa’s welcome to the Royal Family, the correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph,” in a dispatch from Ladysmith, says that no shadow of politics or racial discord has interfered with the brilliant success of the tour. Not one word or adverse comment has appeared in any newspaper, not even in the most outspoken Nationalist journals. “It is clear to all South Africans that the tour has no political purpose and will have no influence on domestic politics except from a general longterm viewpoint,” adds the correspondent. “The King’s presence among them has brought home to all South Africans, whatever their political creed, the reality of the monarchy and the value in existing international conditions of a united Commonwealth headed by a constitutional monarch.”
