WELLINGTON TEAM BEATS CANTERBURY (P.A.) WELLINGTON, March 16. Overwhelming Canterbury by 16 to 2, the Wellington iwpresentative softball team gave a gooa display at Athletic Park on Saturday. Wellington’s win was largely due to persistent overthrowing by Canterbury and good pitching by Hutson. Neither team’s batting was particularly impressive The highest scoring innings for Wellington were the third and the fifth, in which six and five runs respectively were scored. Good work by R. Jenkins at first base for Wellington repeatedly found Canterbury men out at his base. Wellington scored many one base runs by the use of "bunting,” often catching the Canterbury pitcher off guard. The Wellington team did not have to bat in the last innings. Curtain-raiser results were: Wellington Colts 14, Canterbury Colts 14; Wellington Women 15, Canterbury Women 3. MEN’S COMPETITION The Canterbury Men’s Softball Association’s competitions were continued on Saturday. Results were:—Senior knockout: Redcliffs 7. Riccarton Red Sox 4; McGirtness 15. Avon Rovals 11; Spreydon 22, Linwood Dodgers 13. Juniors: Hays 10, Y.P.C. 6; Avon Royals 15, A.T.C. 9; Spreydon 11, Linwood Wildcats 7; Training College 22, Richmond 13; Linwood Pirates 21, Christchurch 6. Inter-island matches played at Waikuku beach domain resulted:—Avon Royals 19, Taita Demons 6; Taita Demons 19, Combined teams 15.
