SCOUT JAMBOREE

250 BOYS TO VISIT FRANCE It has been announced by the Dominion Headquarters of the Boy Scouts’ Association that, ; subject to final authority being obtained from the British shipping authorities, provisional reservations have been made for up to 250 New Zealand scouts to leave New Zealand by the Rangitata from Wellington on May 3 to attend the sixth world jamboree, which will take place in France in August. The present provisional time-table for the New Zealand scouts provides for the contingent to arrive in the United Kingdom on June 9, and the following two months will be spent in sight-see-ing and camping in Great Britain. On August 6, or thereabouts, the New Zealand contingent will journey to France, and will remain at the jamboree until August 20. Then there will be a further month in Europe before the return journey to New Zealand, and part of this month may be spent in France camping with French scouts or as guests in their homes. • The New Zealand contingent will include sea scouts, rover scouts, scout officers, and scout commissioners, in addition to scouts.

Special arrangements are being made with the education authorities so that the schooling of the boys will not be interrupted by the voyage, and school hours will be observed aboard ship. The New Zealand contingent will be led by Sir Joseph Ward, County Commissioner for Boy Scouts for the county of Canterbury, and the deputy leader wi'l be Mr F. L. McKenzie, As-sistant-County Commissioner for Scouts for the Hutt Valley and Bays scout county.
