DISTINGUISHED AIRMAN
WING COMMANDER ENSOR’S VISIT Wing Commander M. A. Ensor, D.S.O. and bar, D.F.C. and bar, one of New Zealand’s most distinguished airmen. arrived in Christchurch from the North Island bn Saturday morning and left in the afternoon for Cheviot, where he will snend a holiday with his
brother. Mr J. H. Ensor. Wing Commander Ensor arrived from England by the Rimutaka earlier this month with his wife and child. After three months in New Zealand on furlough, Wing Commander Ensor will probably return to England, where he has been accepted for a permanent commission with the Royal Air Force. One of the few New Zealand airmen to hold the D.S.O. and bar and D.F.C. and bar. Wing Commander Ensor became interested in flying while he was still a pupil at St. Andrew’s College. He began his training as a pilot in July. 1940. Posted to Coastal Command, he gained a bar to his D.F.C. by the end of 1942, and reached the rank of flying officer. He was soon promoted to squadron leader, and, at the age of 21, he was awarded the D.S.O. He won three of his decorations in his first operational tour for attacks against shipping and Üboats.
