A sewing machine, a few small personal effects, and some scorched blankets were all that remained of the belongings of Mrs D. Walsh, a war widow, snd her daughter, aged six, after fire had swept the upper storey of a boarding-house in Dominion road, Auckland. Left with only the clothes which they were wearing, the mother and daughter watched the firemen salvage the wreckage of their belongings from the house. Seventeen persons are without eccommodation -s the result of the fire, which severely damaged the upper storey before the brigade got it under control.—(P.A.)
