GREEK CLAIMS AGAINST GERMANY

The Greek Ambassador in London (Mr Thanassis Achnides) to-day revealed Greece’s claims against Germany to be submitted to the Foreign Ministers’ deputies. Greece claims that Germany’s liability for damage sustained in Greece during the occupation should be fixed at the highest possible level. Greece wants reparations to include items from current production so that Greece can secure 500,000 tons of coal annually. Greece should be permitted to employ specialised German technical personnel for specific tasks. Germany should bear the expense of necessary repairs and additions to industrial installations which are handed over as reparations, and all Greece’s claims should be met within the shortest possible time. Greece suggests that reparations should include a share of German property in Italy and Austria, also in countries which, although they form-

i ally entered the war, have not them- - selves substantial claims against Ger- • many such as Turkey and the Argeni tine. “Poland regards her western fron- - tier as fixed by the Potsdam agree- » ment and it only remains for the Ger--1 man peace treaty to sanction it formj ally,” said a Polish Embassy spokess man at a press conference in London t to-day. 1 He revealed that 1,760,000 Germans i had already been evacuated westward - from the areas ceded to Poland. Only - 300.000 remained, and they will be f evacuated soon. Meanwhile, nearly - 4,000,000 Poles have been moved in 1 from beyond the Curzon Line. 5 Poland, when she places her views - before the Foreign Ministers’ deputies on January 27, will formally apply s for the German peace treaty to be i signed in Warsaw where, they believe, i its signing would have ‘ a strong poli- - tical and moral significance.”
