NEWCOMERS AT FORBURY

COPPER TRAIL AND LOYAL NELSON

Newcomers at the Forbury Park Trotting Club’s meeting to-morrow include Copper Trail and Loyal Nelson, which are both trained at Mataura by D. Todd for Mrs E. Flynn. Loyal Nelson, which will start from the 24 yards mark in the Telegraph Handicap of two miles, raced well over the same distance when, after conceding starts of up to 48 yards, he beat all but Grattan Drive in the New River Trot at the Southland Racing Club’s meeting at Invercargill on Saturday. Bred by Mr M. F. Flynn. Invercargill. Loyal Nelson showed fine form last season to win three of his last four races. An aged gelding, he is by Grattan Loyal from June Nelson, the dam of other winners including June Tide, Kid Wolf, and Copper Trail. At his only start this season, Copper Trail showed that he is back to the form which made him one of the outstanding three-year-olds in Southland in the 1944-45 season, by* registering a decisive win over Doonholpie in the Gore Trotting Club Handicap on Boxing Day. As Copper Trail yvas reported to have been carrying some surplus condition when he raced at Gore, he should be an improved horse when he parades tomorrow, and he appears assured of earning some of the prize-money. Jottings

Jimmy Wharton's fourth placing in the Vauxhall Handicap on the first day of the Forbury Park Trotting Club’s meeting was full of merit, as he was forced to cover extra ground all the way. If he gets a clear passage from the 48 yards mark, he should fight out the finish of the Waverley Handicap at Forbury Park to-morrow.

Nyallo Scott, which is now assessed on 2min lOsec, 2min 42sec, and 4min 23sec has earned £5782 in less than 12 months. The five-year-old Sprayman has raced consistently this season for two wins and four minor placings in nine starts, and he should be prominent at the finish of the Mount Albert Handicap at the Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting next week Doonholme registered 4min 23 2-ssec when she finished in second place to Mandrake in the Southland Handicap on the first day of the Fdrbury Park meeting. and that form entitles her to consideration to-morrow. May do Better

Golden Amazon w’as privately timed to cover the first mile in the Otago Handicap at the Forbury Park Trotting Club’s meeting m 2min 13sec. when he fought for the lead with Jimmy Dillon, and it was not surprising ’to see him weaken over the concluding stages. Golden Amazon is the sole occupant of the scratch mark in the Crescent Handicap at Forbury Park to-morrow, and if he is allowed to set. his own pace -in the early part he should extend this field at the finish. Promising Trotter

* S ‘ Al ‘S ust ’ Onerous, which is a brother to a fast trotter in Believe Me, outclassed his field when he won the Handicap by five lengths from Golden Hoofs at the Cambridge Trotting XI m . eetl ns on January 11. and on he should be hard to beat seraph mark in the Improvers' Trotting Club's next week. A five-year-old gelding, Onerous is trained by T. Roe Mangere, fob Mr P. V. Flexman. who will represented by Sir Vivian at the Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting.

Larry Grattan Sold Larry Grattan has been sold by Mr A. Lovett, and is now being trained by T. Gleeson, Papanui. A speedy gelding by Grattan Loyal from .Logan’s Mission, Larry Grattan showed his best form this season at the Methven Trotting Club’s meeting on October 5, when after being in eleventh place when the field settled down he finished fast to win the S. G. Holmes Memorial Handicap by half a head from Lord Peterson. Bred by Mr J. Duffy (Winton). Logan’s Mission, the dam of Larry Grattan, left some fast pacers, including Happi, to Happy Vovage. Grand Mogul and Smile Again to Adioo Guy, Aspirant td Llewellyn, and Fervent to Quite Sure.
