REFUGEES FROM POLAND

16 GERMANS FROZEN TO DEATH BRITISH MINISTER’S STATEMENT (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright! (Rec. 7 p.m.) LONDON. January 22. Mr J. B. Hynd, the Minister responsible for the British zone of Germany, in a written reply in the House of Commons to a question about a refugee train which arrived at the frontier of the British zone from Poland on December 21 containing 16 Germans frozen to death and 57 suffering from frostbite, said Poland had not carried out the movement of these expelled Germans in a humane and orderly manner, as was required by the Potsdam agreement. The cars on the train were totally unheated and the food supplied was totally insufficient. The British authorities had informed the Poles that no further trains would be accepted until they were satisfied that the conditions were suitable.
