OBITUARY
MRS W. THOMAS Mrs Sussanah Lilias Thomas died in the Taumarupui Hospital on Friday night. Mrs Thomas, who was in her eightieth year, was the wife of Mr W. Thomas, proprietor of the “Taumarunui Press.” >- Born at Dunedin, she was the eldest daughter of Mr R. Morrison, who later went with his family to live at Geraldine, where he established one of the largest general merchant businesses in» South Canterbury. Mrs Thomas married in 1893, her husband beihg editor and manager of the “Geraldine Guardian.” In 1908 the family made a trip abroad, and in 1915 Mr Thomas took over the “Taumarunui Press.” Mrs Thomas and the late Mrs E. W. Simmons were among the few who escaped the influenza epidemic at Taumarunui in 1918, and together visited and helped many homes when whole families were stricken. Mrs Thomas was known for her ability as a musician. Mr and Mrs Thomas celebrated their golden wedding about three and a half years ago. Mrs Thomas is survived by her husband and three sons, Messrs Nelson Thomas. Baden Thomas, and R. W. Thomas. There are eight grandchildren.
