HEAVY SAFE STOLEN AT AUCKLAND
£5OO IN NOTES TAKEN (P.A.) AUCKLAND, Jan. 22. A heavy safe on wheels containing £5OO in bank notes was wheeled out of the Princes Wharf office of the Auckland Launch and Towboat Company late last night and carried away by thieves. The safe was discovered this morning in the entrance to Eden Park. . All the money was taken from the safe, which had a hole in the bottojn. Two employees of the company are heavy losers, about half the £5OO bfeing their money. Bookmakers Fined.—Convicted for bookmaking. James Meyer Ford and Robert John Timpany, both of Invercargill, were each fined £250, In the Magistrate’s Court at Invercargill yesterday. Both had previous convictions. Evidence showed that when the defendants’ premises were raided last Saturday bets taken totalled about. £IOOO.—(P.A.)
