AIRCRAFT CAPABLE OF CARRYING 400 PASSENGERS.—The United States Army Air Forces’ new air transport, XC99, dwarfs nearby buildings in the experimental yard of the Consolidated-Vultee plant, San Diego, California, where the plane is under construction. The XC99 is designed to carry 400 troops or 100,0001b of cargo. The aircraft has six 3000 horse-power engines, is 182ft long, and has a wingspread of 230ft. The tail is 57ft high. The first test flights will be made in April.
