Sir Patrick Duff (High Commissioner in New Zealand for the United Kingdom) and Lady Duff will visit Waikouaiti on Friday, when Sir Patrick Duff will address the children in the health camp there. Mr G. C. Brookes (District Vocational Guidance Officer) and Miss C. E. Robinson (Girls’ Vocational Guidance Officer) will pay an official visit to Timaru next week. Mr and Mrs Joseph Horn, who recently arrived in New Zealand from London, will arrive in Dunedin to-day. Mrs Horn is the daughter of the late Mr W. N. Bolt, of Dunedin, and was last in New Zealand with her husband in 1931. Mr Horn, who is a director of property companies in Mayfair, was appointed fire prevention officer for the district early in the war. Because she expects to remain overseas for some time, Dr. Sylvia Chapman, first woman to be elected to the Senate of the University of New Zealand. resigned yesterday. Writing from London, Dr. Chapman, who has been doing relief work in Greece, said she hoped to do furthei* work in central Europe, and then to continue postgraduate studies. Mrs G. H. Benson, who was appointed to the Senate after Dr. Chapman, paid a tribute at yesterday’s meeting to her wide culture, liberal outlook, and integrity of mind. The annual conference of the New Zealand Association of Registered Nurses will be held this year in Auckland, beginning on March 12, and continuing for three days. The conference of matrons will be held on March 11, and will be attended by Miss Widdowson, Miss Sparkes, and Miss M. Needs. Mrs A. Fuldseth (secretary-treasurer of the Christchurch branch), and Miss Grant (Department, of Health) will also attend the conference. Mrs Liddle, who, with her children, is visiting her parents, Mr and Mrs F. W. Hobbs, Papanui road, intends leaving New Zealand by the Dominion Monarch on February 1 on her return to her home in Sydney. Sir Noel Beresford-Peirse, who, with Lady Peirse, landed in Wellington from the Wanganella on Monday, has been Welfare General for India since 1945.
