Harris, of Auckland, the New Zealand record-holder for 880yds, starting off scratch in the 880yds short limit handicap at Olympic Stadium, Newmarket, Auckland, last Saturday. The race was won by J. M. Grierson (15yds), the national mile champion, with Harris second and Fulton third. Harris’s time, 1min 52sec, although not an official record, was the fastest half-mile ever run in New Zealand.
