BOTH SIDES OF THE HEDGE

Sir.—The right-hand side of the hedge seems more beautiful to me. because it appears to get more sunshine than the left. I dwell among the market gardeners and dairy workers on the right, who manfully work 60 to 70 hours a week “not only for pecuniary gain,” but also that mankind may benefit in a troubled world. The left-hand side does not appear to have the same fragrance, not getting so much sunshine. And there is evidence of a withheld chance to improve growth and fruition, but for the weeds of the 40-hour week, which seem to choke that which would be a decided relief to existing starvation in the world today.—Yours, etc.. PERCIVAL SMITH. January 20. 1947.
