PAREMATA WINS CORNWELL CUP

CONTEST DECIDED BY ELEVENTH RACE (P.A.) AUCKLAND. January 20. Paremata, sailing a great race with Akaroa, won the Cornwell Cup in the eleventh race of the contest this afternoon, being the first boat to gain three wins. Paremata had a margin of 20sec

over Akaroa, with Auckland 2min 39«ec astern. The morning race, sailed In light and flukey airs, saw Lyttelton gain her second win by Imin 2sec from Paremata. Never before has a contest gone to 11 races, and the ability of the crews 11 shown by the fact that Auckland, Paremata, Akaroa. Lyttelton, and Christchurch each gained two wins before the final race. The Paremata crew, H. Montgomery and M. Williams, received a great ovation from crews and spectators. . HUNTER-ANDERSON CUP RACE So keenly contested was the scratch race for the Hunter-Anderson Cup, which carries with it the idle-along championship of the Charteris Bay Yacht Club, that only 20 seconds covered the first three boats to cross the finishing line on Sunday afternoon. Twelve boats started at 2.4 p.m. in a fresh, but rather patchy north-east wind, and Kismet, Raeonie, and Kowhai soon established a lead, which was held alternatively by each of those boats according to the variations of the wind.
