VISIT OF M.C.C. TEAM
STILL A “ FIFTY-FIFTY ” CHANCE According to Mr D; E. Wanklyn, chairman of the management committee of the Dominion Cricket Council, who returned yesterday from a short visit to Melbourne, there is a “fifty-fifty” chance of the MC.C team coming to New Zealand this season. Mr Wanklyn. who conferred with the manager of the English side (Major Howard) said that a tour of New Zealand still depended on the success of present efforts to secure air transport. While in Melbourne Mr Wanklyn saw the third test match against Australia, which he described as an extraordinarily interesting game which swung England's way until Tallon and Lindwall took the long handle. The sympathies of the Melbourne crowd appeared to be with the M.C.C. team, he said. The spectators were very good judges of cricket, were alive to all the finer points, and were faic and generous with their applause. They were equally critical of bad play
