The Prime Minister (Mr P. Fraser) cancelled his proposed visit to the triennial conference of the Maori Labour Party of the East Coast yesterday. He was to have travelled by air to Hastings for the meeting. No explanation of his decision to cancel the trip was given. Two members of the Wellington meteorological office, Dr. M. A. F. Barnett, the director, and Mr J. F. Gabites, officer in charge of forecasting, will attend a regional meeting of the International Meteorological Organisation at Melbourne on January 21.—(P. A.)
Mr W. H. Parr, assistant-Town Clerk of Nelson, and accountant to the Nelson City Council, has been appointed managing secretary of the Nelson Harbour Board, in succession to Mr T. M. McKeenan, who is to become secretary of the New Zealand Counties’ Association. Mr Parr was formerly on the staff of the Registrar’s office of Canterbury University College and the Christchurch City Council.—(P.S.S.)
Professor L. M. Lipson has resigned from the chair of Political Science at Victoria University College, which he has held since 1939. He is now in the United States, where he is remaining with the intention of accepting a post.
