VETERANS’ TEAM BEATS AIR FORCE

The Veterans’ Cricket Club beat a team from the Royal New Zealand Air Force Station at Weedons by 50 runs in a game played at Hagley Oval yesterday. The scores were: Veterans (Fuller 34, Dobson 37 retired, Neate*l6, Thrower 14, Rogers 10). Bowling for Air Force, Cooks took six wickets for 49 runs. Lapham two for 30. Air Force: 102 (Herbert 31 retired. Flattery 30. Edwards 18, Steele 11). Fuller (four for 17). Goodwin (three for 20), and Wright (two for 10) obtained the best bowling figures for the winners. FIRMS’ MATCH The annual cricket match between Dalgety and Company and the National Mortgage Company, played recently at the Spreydon Domain, resulted in a win for Dalgety and Company, by 93 runs on the first innings. Scores were:—Dalgety’s 184 (R. E. Alexander 68, F. R. Symes 35). National Mortgage, first innings, 91; second innings, 135. Dalgety and Company, in winning the match, retrieved the “Mercantile Ashes."
