OCCUPATION ARMY
COST TO UNITED STATES (From Our Own Correspondent.) WASHINGTON, Dec. 13. The military occupation of former enemy areas will cost the United States 1,503,784,000 dollars for the 12 months ending June 30, 1947, the War Department estimated to-day. By countries, the estimates included: Germany.—Army pay, 260,500,000 dollars; maintenance of troops, 208,500,000 dollars; government and relief 148,275,000 dollars; total, 617,275,000 dollars. Austria.—Pay, 23,000,000 dollars; maintenance, 18,500.000 dollars; government relief, 3,409,000 dollars; total, 44,909,000 dollars.
Japan.—Pay, 238,000,000 dollars; maintenance, 190,500,000 dollars; government relief, 184,809,000 dollars; total, 613,309,000 dollars. Korea.—Pay, 92,800,000 dollars; maintenance, 74,300,000 dollars; government relief. 61,191,000 dollars: total, 228,291,000 dollars.
