BRITISH ACTOR ON TRIAL
CHARGES OF AIDING GERMANS LONDON. January 14. A British actor, Anthony Cedric j Steane, aged 53, during the war drilled I German soldiers and taught them the ; changing of the guard at Buckingham : Palace, according to the prosecutor at the Old Bailey. The ceremony was to be used in a propaganda film. ■ Steane pleaded not guilty to an in- : dictment of nine counts accusing him ' of having broadcast for the Germans i and having assisted in film produc- ' tion. The prosecution calculated that Steane earned about £ 10,000 during .five years in Germany. He had been interned at the outbreak of war, and .he broadcast after being threatened | with the Gestapo’s attention.
