MORE COAL MINED IN BRITAIN

(Tec. 9 ml) LONDON, Jan. 15. Official provisional figures show that while British coal production in 1946 was 6,527,300 tops higher than in 1945, consumption was 6,549,500 tons higher. Production improved, in spite of the fact that the average number of colliery wage earners declined from 706,400 to 696,700. Mined coal in the week ended January 11 —the first full week’s operation under nationalisation—totalled 3,790,000 tons, compared with 3,552,400 for the corresponding week of 1946.
