TRADES COUNCIL SUPPORTS WORKERS’ CLAIM
The Timaru Trades and Labour Council has expressed its sympathy with the waterfront workers in their claim for time on the radio to state their case. At a special meeting, the council carried the following resolutions: “That this meeting reaffirms its previous decision of January 2 expressing disagreement of the action by the National Executive in resorting to the public press on the question of the waterfront dispute, and is still of the opinion that a meeting of the National Council should be held.” “That this meeting, having regard to the wide publicity given in the newspapers and over the radio to the waterfront dispute, strongly supports the national executive of the Waterside Workers’ Union in its claim for time on the National Broadcasting Service to state its case.” NO SUPPORT FROM STOCKTON MINERS
The Stockton branch of the Miners’ Union, at a meeting-on Tuesday evening unanimously decided to dissociate the branch from any promise of support given by Mr A. Prendiville (national president) or any other union official to the waterside workers’ dispute.
