N.S.W. GOVERNORGENERAL

LABOUR PREMIER’S APPOINTMENT

FORECAST BY CANBERRA CORRESPONDENT (Rec. 11 p.m.) SYDNEY. January 14. Plans for the Premier of New South Wales (Mr W. J. McKell) to lead the New South Wales labour Party in the state elections before resigning to become Governor-General have now been completely abandoned, according to the Canberra correspondent of the

Sydney “Sun,” who says that unless something unforeseen happens Mr McKell will be appointed Governor-Gen-eral well before the elections. This would necessitate the appointment of a New Soutn Wales leader of the state Parliamentary Labour Party. Discussions between the British and Australian authorities on the appointment of a Governor-General were described from another source as being in the doldrums, but the correspondent says that “it is understood that nothing has emerged that lessens Mr McKelrs prospects.’’
