REPORTED APPROVAL BY CHIANG
GENERAL MARSHALL’S GOODWILL
(Rec. 8 p.m.) NANKING, January 13. Marshal Chiang Kai-shek, at a sun Yat-sen memorial service, from which the press were excluded, is reported to have said that the report on China by General Marshall, now United States Secretary of State, was v “filled with constructive criticism, showing his goodwill towards China.” Marshal Chiang Kai-shek is understood to have told his audience that General Marshall’s statement should not be viewed alone, but in conjunction with President Truman’s declaration of policy towards China. He added: “We should reflect on the evil conditions General Marshall has mentioned, and if they do exist, we must correct them.”
