TUESDAY (Before Mr Raymond Ferner, S.M.) ADMITTED TO PROBATION Gwendoline Grace Smith, aged 22 years, pleaded guilty to charges ot siealing a wristlet watch valued at £2 10s, the property of Janet Elizabeth Grigg; a pair of silk stockings- valued at 14s 9d. the property of Isobel Kennard; a pair of slacks valued at £6, and a handbag valued at £1 10s, the property of Thyra Taivase Bethell; and a smock valued at £1 4s, the property of Mary Katherine Shea. Senior-Detective F. J. Brady said from about the end of June accused had been employed by Mrs Bethell at Culverden. and while there had stolen a watch, the property of one of the guests, and other articles. She had been found by the police at Timaru when In possession of stolen property. All the stolen articlea had been recovered. Accused was released on probation for a period of two years, and was ordered to make restitution of the sum of 14s 9d. REMANDED George Edgar Pengelly, aged 62 years, was remanded to Friday next on a charge of stealing an electric iron valued at £2 10s, the property of the New Zealand Farmers’ Co-operative Association. Ltd. INTOXICATED IN CHARGE John Harold Aubrey Moore (Mr T. A. Gresson), aged 47 years, pleaded guilty to a charge of being found in a state of intoxication when in charge of a motorcar on January 13. Moore was fined £lO, his driver’s licence was suspended, and he was prohibited from holding one for 12 months.
