IX Baffing briskly, England, in their secaqd inpings, lost eight wicket, tor 353 against an Australian combined team, making the match a draw. Compton was the hero of the inning., scoring 134 Jn 119 minutes, including 14 fours. He was sollder than usual, using his feet in perfectly timed drives, glances, and pulls. He is th® second Englishman to pass 1009 runs on the tour, and is now 23 behind Hutton’s 1942. The other batsmen were lighthearted. Hardstaff scored 89 in M minutes, hitting eight fours. Edrich hit twq mightv sixes. Fisfflock was spectacularly caught by Johnson, who fell sideways to take a one-handed cateh. Miver, the seventh bowler tried, had the remark.
