ARUNDEL SCHOOL
GOLDEN JUBILEE THIS MONTH
More than 50 years ago the first school at Arundel was opened and the first pupil to attend was Mr Jim Lewis, who, as a young lad of seven years of age, waited on the doorstep for school to commence. Since then 340 pupils have passed through the school, which will celebrate its jubilee on January 18, 19, and 20.
The first teacher at the school was Miss E. Meredith, and it is believed that the school was first opened in 1891 and later enlarged in 1902. Many of the early records of the school have been destroyed, but some interesting information has been supplied by early pupils of the school The present teacher, Mr A. Fletcher, who came to the school in September, 1942, is the first male teacher to be in charge of it.
