15 LIVES LOST IN MINE
Hopes of Rescue Abandoned SECTION OF PIT SEALED OFF (Rec. 9 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 11. One man was killed and 14 others were trapped in an explosion in the Bum Grange pit, West Calder, Midlothian, late last night. Hope of saving the trapped men has been abandoned and the section of the mine where the explosion occurred has been sealed off to try to save the rest of the mine. Rescue work was hindered by the lack of the latest rescue equipment, which had to be brought from Edinburgh. Rescue squads worked desperatehr to reach the trapped men. Hundreds of miners rushed to the mine to. help the rescue when the pit’s sirens sounded the alarm. Fumes overcame several, who had to oe brought to the surface. VON PAPEN TO BE TRIED CHARGE OF HELPING HITLER TO POWER DENAZIFICATION BOARD’S INDICTMENT <Rec. 9.30 p.m.) NUREMBERG, Jan. 11. The Denazification Board to-day served an indictment on von Papen requiring him to appear to answer a charge that he helped Hitler to power. .The Denazification Minister.
