MAN SERIOUSLY WOUNDED
SHOT IN STOMACH TWO YOUTHS ARRESTED LATER (P.A.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Jan. 12. A 23-year-old farmer, Raymond Brinkman, of Te Whakarae, Taumarunui, was taken to the Taumarunui Hospital suffering from a bullet wound in the stomach, received after he had surprised two intruders in his home this afternoon. His condition this evening is reported to be very serious. Less than three hours after the incident, two youths were arrested. A police party was travelling along the Ohura river road when two youths were observed walking towards Ohura. One was carrying a loaded rifle. The police officers closed in on the youths, who surrendered without resistance. A rifle, between 400 and 500 rounds of ammunition, and about £l5 were stolen from a car parked on the river road to-day. _______________
