Land Drainage at Sumner

Sumner was bjiilt in 4 valley with very little fall from the foot of the hills to the sea, and the heavy rains of the last two years had severely taxed its land drainage system, said Mr H. G. Livingstone, chairman of the Christehurch Drainage Board, when a deputation from the Sumner Businessmen’s Association waited on the board last evening. The deputatation sought the board’s help in meeting land drainage problems in Sumner. Mr Livingstone promised sympathetic consideration, stating' that the problem had to be faced in the light of its priority of urgency, compared with the claims of other city areas. The board had assumed responsibility for Sumner’s drainage when Sumner voted to amalgamate with the city. |
