CARPENTERS RESUME WORK
DISPUTE OVER DIRT MONEY SETTLED WELLINGTON, December 17. Snipwork carpenters resumed work to-day on the Dalcross after a dispute over dirt money which lasted eight days. The men, who claimed 18d a hour dirt money, as against 9d offered S \ he 5S Q ?, 10y V s ’ were granted lOd Fl? ™ Wellington branch manager of the Waterfront Industry Commission, who heard the dispute. The matter had been placed in the hands of the Labour Department by the employers, but the men started work at 10 a.m. to-day on condition that the dispute was heard before an arbiter, whose decision was announced an hour later.
