REMOVAL URGED LIGHTING IMPROVEMENTS FOR HARPER AVENUI The Christchurch City Council * be urged by the Advisory Commitl on Civic Beautification* to remove the fences on Hagley Park fronti Harper avenue. The old hawtho hedge bounding Little Hagley Pa from the Carlton Mill bridge to H more’s lane, has recently been i moved, snd the council has decided the removal of the section from H more’s lane to Fendalton road; but t committee suggests that the fence the other side of the road should a] be cut down. “The fine appearance secured by i moving one portion gives an indicate of the effect that would be gained 1 removing the rest of the fences,’’ sta the report of the committee. It also urges that the present systc of lighting Harper avenue with t lights suspended from “unsigbl poles,” should give way to a syste of ornamental lamp standards led l underground conduit. “The comm tee feels that a unique opportunity e ists in this avenue to have a poleit street, as throughout its length the are no telephone or power polea.
