ST. JOHN AMBULANCE A decrease in the number of transport cases handled was shown in the chairman’s report presented at the thirteenth annual meeting of the Lyttelton SubCentre of the St. John Ambulance Association last night. A total of 286 cases was handled, the mileage being 7738, as compared with 322 cases and 9141 miles for the previous year The decrease had been confined to file work of the stretcher ambulance. The cash assets had Increased by £3B from £525 to £594. The headquarters rooms had been extensively renovated by the owners. the British Sailors’ Society. The Deputy-Mayor (Mr F. H. Heal) presided. The following officers were elected:— president. Mr J. T. Norton; vice-presi-dent. Mr W. T. Lindsay; secretary, Mr W. Miller; treasurer, Mr A. K. Dyne; committee, Dr. P. A. M. Heath. Messrs R E. Cairns. D G. Miller, S. E. Buchanan, F. E. Sutton, S. E Martin, Mrs R Samson: auditor. Mr G. C Taylor

Personal In concluding his annual report at the meeting of the Lyttelton sub-centre of the St. John Ambulance Association last evening the president (Mr J. T. Norton), who was unable to be present, wrote that he regretted that ill-health would prevent his taking any further office. He thanked all those who had been associated with him in the work of the Order for their great help When later, nominations were called for the office of president, the vice-presi-dent (Mr W. T. Lindsay) announced that, after conferring with other members that day, he had waited upon Mr Norton and had prevailed upon him to accept office again He felt that the least the meeting could do in recognition of Mr Norton s many years of work would be to re-elect him’ Tributes to Mr Norton’s work were Also paid by the chairman (Mr F.
