BY-PRODUCTS WORKERS
CLAIMS IN CONCILIATION COUNCIL Several claims submitted in Conciliation Council yesteday by representatives of employees under the Canterbury and Otago and Southland By-Products workers award were referred to the Arbitration Court for consideration. The Conciliation Commissioner (Mr A. B Rigg) presided. Agreement was reachea with the employers to increase the rates for shift workers from la 6d an hour to 2s an hour, and to provide- one other day’s holiday a year. The clause relating to wages will be submitted to the Arbitration Court The employees claimed the following weekly rates:—workers receiving offal and/or cuting up paunches at by-products and boiling-down works, £8 4s 8d (present rate. 2s lOd an hour); workers loading up iwells, £6 Is lOd (2s 9d an hour); workers engaged in crushing air-dried bones, and tallow workers. £5 19s 2d (2s B|d an hour); all other workers. £5 Iss 6d (2s 7jd an hour). The present rate -of £6 3s 4d a week for casing workers remains unchanged Nd agreement was reached in the claim tor overalls for workers or for the provision of five minutes' changing time, at finishining time, for all workers in wet or dirty places.
