BELGIAN AIRLINER CRASHES
SURVIVORS FOUND BY PILOT
(Rec. 7 p.m.) NEW YORK, Sept 19. At least five persons—two men, two women, and a child—are believed to have survived the crash of the Belgian trans-Atlantic airliner in Newfoundland. The wreckage of the liner was found to-day by the pilot of a searching aircrdft, who said that three persons waved coats as he flew over. He saw other survivors four miles away, and supplies had been dropped for them by a Coast Guard pilot The air liner, carrying 37 passengers and a crew of seven, was earlier reported about 12 hours overdue in Newfoundland from Europe. It left Shannon, Eire, late on Tuesday night, and was over Gander early this mcrning. A search party reached the scene of the crash but a failure of radio communication prevented transmission of Cetails of what was found The party only reported that the aeroplane was burnt out except for its tail section and that the party had prepared to evacuate survivors to-morrow. The number of survivors was not given.
