OVERTIME PAY TAXATION
RELIEF DEMANDED BY WATERSIDERS (P.A.) WELLINGTON. September 20. Expressing dissatisfaction that taxation on overtime pay had not been eliminated, a resolution passed last night by the Wellington Waterfront Central Committee, representing six unions, decided to send a deputation to the Minister of Finance (the Kt. Hon. VZ. Nash) to discuss the matter and, if no satisfaction was received, to ask the unions to take appropriate action. This was announced to-day by the secretary of the Wellington branch of the Waterside Workers’ Union (Mr E. A. Napier), who said “big business” had been granted remissions of excess profits and company taxes to aid production while workers received no relief on overtime pay, which was earned in die aiding of production and the handling of goods.
