OFFERING MAINLY CRUTCHINGS LITTLE DEMAND FOR POOR TYPES (P.A.) WANGANUI, Sept. 20. The second wool .sale of the New Zealand series was held to-day, a bench of more than 40 buyers being present A catalogue of 28,000 bales, mainly crutchings, was offered, of which about 5000 were this seasons crutchings and the balance was wool offered on behalf of the Joint Purchasing Board Organisation. Bidding appeared to be slower compared with pre-war auctions, but was steady and occasionally spirited. Continental buyers showed an interest in slipes and New Zealand mills paid a good price for good wools. French buyers were operating as direct purchasers, and some of the wool was bought for the United States. Japanese buyers, prominent at pre-war Wanganui auctions, were absent. Buyers operating for the British market were biddmg for better-class wools. , “Due to seasonal conditions, crutchings were not as attractive as in past seasons,” stated the official report issued after the sale by the Wanganui Wool Brokers’ Association, in conjunction with the New Zealand Wool Buyers’ Association and the Wool Disposal Commission. “Bidding was keen, but limited to average and good crutchings, while the poorer types met with little competition.” - The official range of prices is as follows, all being for crutchings, no official statement being available regarding other types of wool:
