REPRESENTATIVE MATCH CANTERBURY V. WEST COAST The West Coast representative team will meet Canterbury to-day at Lancaster Park in the second of the home-and-home matches for the 1946 season. In the previous game, played on June 3, West Coast won by 11 points to 9; but a greatly improved Canterbury team may turn the tables fo-day. T. R. O’Callaghan, who has captained the West Coast Rugby representatives in each of their matches this season, is not available for to-day’s match with Canterbury at Christchurch because of a khee injury received in the McLean Cup match at Hokitika. C. Lewis, who was selected to replace J. Haddock as emergency forward, is also unavailable, and he will be replaced by T. Harker. J. Gillan will also be added to the team. With three of the original team replaced, it was not known yesterday how the? backs would line out against Canterbury. The Canterbury team is as follows: J. W. Kelly, G. W. Drummond, W. G. Argus, W. McHugh, G. Bolton, J. E. Roach. R. Monagatti, G. Bond, A. Lee, P. K. Rhind, F. Hobbs, R. Duff, H. Sturrock, D. Herman, M. Henderson.
STATE RECEPTION TO AUSTRALIANS
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 20. The Australian Rugby team was accorded a State reception in Wellington to-day. The team was welcomed by the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser). Mr S. S. Dean, chairman of the New Zealand Rugby Union Council, announced that the tour had been extended by two days to enable the Australians to visit Rotorua after their last match.
