VICEREGAL (PA.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 19. Their Excellencies the GovernorGeneral and Lady Freyberg attended by Flight Lieutenant Michael Cole, returned to Wellington this evening. Mr H. W. Lomas has been appointed a member of the Timaru Licensing Committee, in place of the late Mr J. T. Newman.—(P.A.) Mr W. Laing, chairman, Mr W. J. Walter, and Mr W. P. Spencer, all of the Waimairi County Council, are patients in hospital Last evening other councillors expressed hope for their speedy recovery. The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal A. de T. Nevill, arrived back in Wellington late last night after a vLit to Britain and Japan. While in Britain he attended important defence talks, and in Japan he inspected R.N.Z.A.F. installations with the occupation fences. He travelled from Sydney to Mechanics Bay, Auckland, yesterday in a Tasman Empire Airways flying-boat, arriving at 3.30 p.m., and left by aeroplane for Ohakea at 5.20 p.m., arriving at Ohakea at ’’.3B p.m. He came on to Wellington by car, reaching the Air Department shortly after 11 p.m. Air Vice Marshal Nevill visited the Prime Minister (the Rt Hon. P. Fraser) soon afterwards.— (P.A.) Tribute to the work of Mr T. H. Langford, public relations officer of the Christchurch City Council, was paid by the Mayor (Mr E. H. Andrews) at the annual meeting of the Christchurch Citizens’ Association last evening, when he said all agreed that a wise choice had been made. One of the biggest steps forward made this year had been the appointment of a publicity officer, he said.
