OFFICIAL FORECASTS •• The Press " Special Service WELLINGTON, September 19. The weather forecast for Canterbury, issued at 9 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 20 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Situation: there is a depression north-east of the North Island. An anti-cyclone in the north-west Tasman Sea extends on to New Zealand. Forecast to 5 p.m.: light to moderate, variable winds mainly. but southwesterlies possibly freshening on the coast in the afternoon. Weather fair to fine, with moderate afternoon temperatures. WEST The forecast for the West Coast of the Couth Island is:— Moderate. south-westerly winds predominating, and freshening at times. A few passing showers likely, but weather mainly fair to cloudy, and rather coot CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The weather was fine and sunny yesterday with a light south-east breeze. The maximum temperature was 58 degrees. At 1 o'clock this morning the sky was clear and there was no wind. The barometer,* rising, registered 23.85 inches (1010.8 millibars).
