Oil Burning Locomotives
The first of two K class locomotives being converted to oil burners is expected to be operating on the Paekaka-riki-Taihape section of the Main Trunk line within six to eight weeks. It was originally intended that the new type of locomotives would first operate between Auckland and Frankton, but this proposal has been abandoned. Only two engines are to be converted to oil burning until it is found whether this is successful. The conversion of other locomotives may follow. Oil tanks for fuelling will have to be erected at Paekakariki Mid Taihape.— (P.A.) Waimairi County Plantations.— After receiving a report on its plantations, the Waimairi County Council decided last evening to devote more attention to their maintenance as labour becomes available. Recommendations were made for improving this valuable asset.
