NUMBER DOUBLED IN TEN YEARS DURATION OF MARRIAGES Of the 2211 petitions in divorce filed in New Zealand in 1945, 1261 were husbands’ petitions. The petitions were • the highest on record, being double those of 1936. The principal grounds for dissolution of marriages cited in the petitions filed in 1945 were, says the Abstract of Statistics, as follows:—adultery, 563; desertion, 258; non-compli-ance with order for restitution of con-' jugal rights, 402; separation for not less than three years, 955. In 550 petitions 461 decrees were made for restitution of conjugal rights. The duration of the marriage at the tune of filing of the 2211 petitions was under five years in 331 cases, from five to 10 years In 796, from 10 to 15 years in 418, from 15 to 20 years in 296, from 20 to 25 years in 182, from 25 to 30 years in 98, and 30 years and more in 90. Comparative figures of petitions filed and decrees nisi made are:—l93s, 867 742; 1936, 1099, 933; 1937. 1154, 1008: 1938, 1178, 1063; 1939. 1243, 1092; 1940. 1189, 1042; 1941, 1115, 996; 1942, 1177, 988; 1943, 1641, 13S8; 1944, 1992, 1821; 1945, 2211, 1914.
