ANNUAL DAFFODIL DAY

DISPLAY IN BOTANIC GARDENS The annual “daffodil day” at the Christchurch Botanic Gardens will be held on Sunday, where, in the woodland, on the south bank of the Avon river, more than 1,090,000 flowers are rapidly approaching their peak. The abnormally dry winter and recent rams have hastened spring growth, and it has been found necessary to hold the display a week earlier than had been anticipated. If the weather remains fine, visitors should see the daffodils at their peak. It is improbable that a more impressive display can be seen in any city comparable with Christchurch in the southern hemisphere. From the east end of the woodland area, looking west, a magnificent panorama is'seen. Rising from the woodland floor, densely studded with daffodils in so many types and varieties, are the beautiful trees with which the area is planted, while part of the area Is surrounded by a semi-circle of well-developed Yoshlno cherries, now well in bloom. A band will be in attendance during next Sunday afternoon, and arrangements have been made to open a refreshment tent.
