EXTRACTION rate to BE REDUCED “PRELIMINARY. TO END OF RATIONING” . LONDON. September 18. Millers have been given permission to reduce the flour extraction rate from 90 per cent, to 85 per cent, from September 22. In announcing this, the Minister of Food (Mr John Strachey) added that bread rationing would be removed immediately if it were safe to do so. The reduction in the extraction rate will mean whiter bread of better quality and a substantial increase in whdat offals for livestock. It is regarded as a preliminary to the suspending of, bread rationing. 6 The extraction rate before the war 7O per cent, It was raised to 80 per cent during the war, 85 last February, and finally to 90 per cent, in May.
