N.S.W. MINERS’ HOLIDAYS
INCREASE OPPOSED TIME LOST BY STRIKES (Rec. 10 p.m.) SYDNEY. August 21. “The average number of days a man lost in the New South Wales mining industry through strikes in 1945 was 36.1 compared with slightly more than two days in 1933,” said the secretary of the Northern Colliery Proprietors’ Association in evidence before the Ceptral Industrial Authority (Mr A. C. Willis). He was opposing an application by the Miners’ Federation for three weeks’ annual leave, three weeks’ sick pay, and weekly instead of fortnightly payments. At present the men are entitled to two weeks’ annual holiday with pay, but there is no provision regarding sick pay.
