The weather forecast for Canterburyissued at 9 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 20 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Situation: a complex depression lies to the east of New Zealand, while a trough of low pressure is advancing across the Tasman Sea. Forecast to 5 p.m.: moderate south-westerly winds on the coast from Banks Peninsula northwards, but light to moderate and variable winds elsewhere. A few isolated showers on the North Canter-

bury coast, but weather elsewhere fair. Temperatures cold. Further outlook: fair. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the Couth Island is:— Light to moderate and variable winds. Weather fair. Temperatures cold. Further outlook: cloud increasing. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The weather was fine but overcast yesterday. with a light south-west wind. The maximum temperature was 50.1 degrees. At 1 o’clock this morning the sky was clear and there was no wind. The barometer, falling, registered 29.60 inches (1002.4 millibars).
