THE FOOD QUESTION
Sir, —After all this talk of more production we are now faced with a large surplus of potatoes, caused by the shipping and labour hold-up. No wonder farmers are disgusted and disheartened. Instead of allowing these potatoes to go to waste they should be used in place of bread. Both flour and bread should be strictly rationed immediately, though lam afraid this would be too sensible a thing to expect of those in control of this industry.—Yours, etc., DISGUSTED. August 20, 1946.
