“Not the Only Country** New Zealand is not the only country to feel the shortage of maternity nurses. Dr. Doris Gordon, Director of Maternal Welfare, told a conference in Christchurch that both Australia and Britain were similarly placed. So grave had the position become in England, that the manpowering of nurses and midwives was being authorised to meet the grave position. Both England and Scotland were making definite strides in maternity nursing care and technique, and baby nursing was regarded as the most important branch of the nursing service.
