OFFICIAL FORECASTS •* The Press " Special Service WELLINGTON, August 20. The weather forecast for Canterbury issued at 9 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 20 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Situation: a deep and extensive depression lies to the west of the North Island, while another is forming east of Hawke’s Bay. Forecast to 5 p.m.: moderate to fresh south-westerly winds on the coast from Banks Peninsula northward, but elsewhere light to moderate and variable winds. Isolated showers developing on the North Canterbury coast, but weather elsewhere fair to cloudy. Temperatures cold. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the <6outh Island is:— Easterly winds, fresh at times. Some scattered showers in north Westland, but weather elsewhere fair to cloudy and cool. Further outlook: showers developing. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The weather was fine and calm but ©vercast yesterday. The maximum temperature was 49.8 degrees. At 1 o’clock this morning the sky was clear and there was no wind.
